Benefits of Chanting

When I first went to Yoga, and the teacher guided us into chanting, “Om,” I was like,  “Yeah, right, not me,” and probably rolled my eyes.  Now, over a decade later, chanting is my favorite part of the practice.  There are so many amazing benefits of chanting!!!  

  • Chanting is considered a pranayam, so it will regulate your breathing

  • Chanting a mantra over and over will replace your thoughts.  Chances are the vibration of the mantra you’re chanting is higher than the thoughts you may be thinking, so you will be raising your vibration or frequency from chanting.  Raising your vibration will attract more positive feelings, beings & situations that are also thriving at a higher vibration. Therefore, your life will begin to change for the better.    

  • The BEST is when the mantra gets stuck in your head, so you don’t even have to think about vibrating at a higher frequency, YOU JUST ARE!  My brain or mind tends to ruminate, so I love it when this happens.

  • Chanting creates NEW NEURAL PATHWAYS in the brain!!!  It increases the neuroplasticity of the brain. Chanting does this even better than the brain game apps that are out today because it’s more natural.

  • Chanting creates a BUZZ.  Most of our culture seeks a buzz from the outside through alcohol, drugs, food, sugar, sex, et al.  Chanting only requires that you use your own consciousness and voice. The buzz is created with the naturally occurring chemicals already in our brains.  All the outside sources for a buzz artificially stimulate and then deplete our happy chemicals, leaving you worse off than before.

How I learned to chant was by listening to different mantra music in my car.  Chanting keeps your mood elevated, and is a very effective way to deal with traffic!  One of my favorite artists to start listening to:
